An ode to everlasting change. To the mornings where we customize ourselves with new ambitions, dreams, and mindsets. To the nights where we shed our days and paranoid thoughts plague the dark room until they’re slowly burned away by the sunrise.
Life feels sometimes apocalyptic yet transformative. Like the ocean, it never stops, it’s always going no matter what. You look out and she’s still making waves and continuing on. During the high tide, when you don’t remember what your purpose is, what came before, what comes after,
when the onerous days approach and routines and daily habits are abandoned—flow with her, don’t push against her and she will take you to peace. Let this be a gentle reminder to deter from things which hurt your soul. Success is the goal, but not worth the sacrifice of your spirit. There will always be high tides, but without the low tides, the highs are meaningless.
I have seen the everlasting change in the reflection of the waves and I have watched her watching me, a kind of pain and longing where the soul splits and comes back together into time and out of it, stealing light and air–inevitably, a life cycle.
A new year. An in-between of what is past and what is ahead of us—a clean slate. Excitement but also reflection. A new plan. A lot of thinking, too much, too fast. Heal by replenishing what you have lost, whether that is physically or emotionally. Re-center and take it moment by moment. What do you need to replenish? Plant the seeds, water them and give them your sun.
How long have you been wanting something but have not asked for it? Do it this year. Ask, step towards it, jump. Plan it now.
Explore your trends this year. Notice your thoughts, your patterns, colors, songs and movements that make you feel good. Write them down. Integrate things that are pleasurable and playful. Detach yourself if you need to—as human beings, we love control—it is good to have your head in the clouds.
Coastline walks. Long, slow days. The glimmer of the opaline sun reflects off the ocean blues of sapphire and aquamarine. Where the sand sleeps, where our eyes come to weep once they meet the words our hearts consume with stories of love, betrayal, and destinies. Linen blankets brush our sandy skin as we embody the souls of characters: the hopeless romantic, the over-ambitious partner in crime, the redeemable antagonist. Stories that enlighten our humor, creating a new sense of empathy as we dream up a library of worlds and universes.
The lines between fiction and reality are fluid, setting our deepest inspirations into fruition. Seek the adventures of traitors and heroes, the counterbalance of darkness and light, the fight against fear, the fight for love. Reflect on their failures, triumphs, and fates. Hear the crescendo and decrescendo of the beach waves as you read, harmonizing with summer sounds that soak up the daylight, the lyrics orbiting around the warmth of the mind, body, and soul. Repay yourself with stories, rest, and pleasure.
When the sun sets and you face the darkness – set between twilight and oblivion – let these stories become your captain, each word turning into bright stars guiding you through the darkest moments across the sea.
